Andre I wholeheartedly agree. There is a much bigger picture here that must be realized and dealt with. Unfortunately very few people with the power and ability to change things are willing to do so. But I do think there are things that each of us can do, especially parents to address these situations within our own families and social circles. I can’t stress enough how people need to get a backbone and stand up for what is right.

Here is one thing that I’ve mentioned before about this ongoing tragedy. The entertainment business is full of garbage more or less. And when it comes to young black men, the case is even worse. These record labels scoop up the talent with one thing on their mind – making money with them. No one ever addressed any kind of past history of abuse or violence with Chris, no one ever though to get him into counseling. The “boys will be boys” mentality is emphasized. Giving them everything they could ever want or desire. Add onto the fact that these kids nowadays are being oversexualized in every way with the music and the videos and you start to get an idea of how young women are objectified. “You’re going to do what? Don’t you know who I am?” is what rings in my head with this case. With an alleged past of abuse in his family amplified by the amount of invincibility and stardom that he has received, it doesn’t surprise me that this happened. These young people have an over-emphasized and lacking in actual substance, sense of power/swagger/cool that no one can touch. The sad thing is, this happens EVERY DAY outside of the flashing lights. It’s sad that this happened but lets look at what we are feeding our young people as a society.
